When a groomer says to you, “your dog needs to be
shaved”, shaved does not mean down to the bone.
The higher the blade number, the longer the cut.
A kennel cut, in turn does not mean shaved. We can do #3
kennel cut which is one step shorter than a Teddy bear.
When you mention a short Teddy bear clip on your dog,
the shortest a groomer can go is ¼”, before it is a
kennel cut #3. If you measure your dogs’ coat, it may be
longer than ¼’. This is because, ¼” does not apply to
the length of the coat but the number of comb the
groomer attaches to the blade to give your dog a Teddy
bear clip.
Also a puppy of younger than at least eight months of
age, (depending on the breed of course) will look uneven
and kind of messy with a Teddy bear clip. The puppy’s
coat had not yet formed into an adult coat and is soft
and non matting. When taking your puppy to the groomer
for the first time, either suggest a bath and tidy,
(which includes a bath, nails, trim around the feet and
face as well as the behind. Or a scissor trimmed teddy
bear. Where the puppy will be afraid of the clippers,
they will settle into a scissor clip.
Think about us as humans sitting around with a fur coat
on??? Your dog has to sweat through panting. Try and
keep your pet comfortable through the hot (hopefully!!)
summer months.
Try a kennel clip for comfort and manageability for pet.
